Working primarily in acrylic and oil I enjoy creating artwork inspired by those around me and my love of nostalgia.
The original painting for this piece was created as a gift for my brother. He has had a ridiculous affinity for reptiles for as long as I can remember. I think our parents may regret that first iguana they got for him. He's bred and sold many varieties over the years but my favorite was always the chameleons. Something about the way they move... sort of like an old granny carefully plotting every step.
This painting was one of the first pieces I created using acrylic inks for the background. Moving and shaping and blending the colors and locking them in place by drying with a heat gun. Then I used templates of various patterns and acrylic spray paint to add another layer of depth and dimension. Lastly, I broke out the brushes and my traditional artist's acrylic. I gave a lot of thought to where each brush stroke would go and how I would lay it down on the canvas. This resulted in an expressive figure that is well defined but also allows the visual texture of the background to show through in areas. It's like this guy really is starting to blend into his surroundings!
I truly hope you receive as much enjoyment from this piece as I did creating it. My poor brother still hasn't gotten the original since it keeps getting accepted into juried art shows. (Update: He finally has the original!)
